He has joined an elite list of players like Sunil Gavaskar (33 centuries), Virender Sehwag (22 centuries), and Murali Vijay (12 centuries) and had beome the 4th Indian opener to have smashed 10 or more 100s in this format. Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma have hit 9 hunreds as openers in the longest format as per Wisden. Rahul last smashed a 100 at homewas way back in December 2016 in Chennai. The gap of 3211 days of smashing his first and second 100s at home is the most by an Indian batter.
