Shubman Gill won the toss for the first time as India's Test skipper and opted to bat first with an aim to complete a 2-0 whitewash. India had a promising start to the game with Jaiswal and KL Rahul stitching a 58-run opening stand. The visitors got the first breakthrough in the 18th over as Jomel Warrican got the better of Rahul for 38. Jaiswal was joined by Sai Sudharsan in the middle, and both the batters did a commendable job to recover things for the hosts.
India's best moments of the first day came during the partnership between Jaiswal and Sudharsan as the duo completely took the West Indies bowlers out of the game in the second session. Sudharsan went on to smash his second Test fifty but ended up missing out on his maiden century. While Jaiswal reached his seventh Test ton, Sudharsan was dismissed by Warrican for 87 runs in the 69th over. The duo had stitched an outstanding partnership of 193 runs for the second wicket.
Jaiswal, who has smashed 22 fours so far, will be looking to continue with the same momentum when he takes the field on the second day and complete his double century as soon as possible.
West Indies introduced a couple of changes in their team as Brandon King and pacer Johann Layne were replaced by wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach and fast bowler Anderson Phillip.
