ICC Champions Trophy 2025: After a memorable outing in the T20 World Cup 2024, India will be looking for a title success in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy which is set to return after eight years.
The tournament is scheduled to be held in Pakistan in 2025, marking the hosting of an ICC event for the first time since the 1996 ODI World Cup.
There have been concerns regarding the tournament after India expressed their reluctance to travel to Pakistan for the tournament.
Amid heavy speculations, India have decided not to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025.
According to a report by Indian Express, the BCCI have written to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), expressing security concerns about travelling to the country. They want their matches to be played in the city of Dubai.
“This has been our stance and there is no reason to change that. We have written to them and asked them to shift our games to Dubai,” a source close to the proceedings informed the publication.
PCB Approves Hybrid Model For Champions Trophy 2025
According to a report by news agency PTI, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have agreed to make 'adjustments' and approve ta hybrid model from the Champions Trophy 2025.
In that case, India will play their matches in the UAE, either in Dubai or in Sharjah.
"The PCB feels that even if the Indian government does not clear the tour to Pakistan slight adjustments can be made to the schedule, as in all probability India would play its matches in Dubai or Sharjah," a source was quoted by PTI as saying.
The top eight teams of the world are to take part in the February 19 to March 9 50-overs ICC event that has Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi as host cities. The Champions Trophy tournament was last played in 2017 in England and Pakistan lifted the title after beating India in the final.
