Ranji Trophy 2024: In a surprising turn of events, Maharashtra skipper Ankit Bawne was given out after his bat edged to the fielder standing at second slip during the Ranji Trophy match against Services. But in the replay, it was shown that the ball had touched the ground and this bizarre umpire decision forced Ruturaj Gaikwad to launch a scathing attack on social media.
Gaikwad himself is currently playing for India A in the unofficial Test series against Australia A. He could score just 15 runs during both innings in Melbourne as they are on the verge of losing the series 2-0.
But Gaikwad is also closely following the Ranji Trophy matches, especially those of his home team Maharashtra. He took to their social media account and slammed the umpires for their below-standard decision-making after a major controversy happened during the Maharashtra vs Services clash.
Ruturaj Gaikwad unhappy with umpiring in Ranji Trophy
Ankit Bawne, who is the stand-in captain of Maharashtra has edged the bat to second slip and the on-field umpire gave the decision in Services' favour when they made an appeal for a low catch. But the replays gave rise to a huge debate. It showed that the ball had hit the ground before the fielder took the catch and the umpires didn't notice that and that's how Bawne was unfairly dismissed.
At the same time, Ruturaj Gaikwad came to his teammate's support while he was in Australia. He took to his official Instagram account and shared a story about low umpiring standards. He also called out services for appealing knowing that the ball had hit the ground.
"How can this be given out in a live game???. Shame to even appeal for a catch. Absolutely pathetic," Gaikwad took to his official Instagram account and wrote on his story.

Although Ruturaj Gaikwad is currently struggling to prove his worth in this format. During both the unofficial Test matches against Australia A, he scored just 20 runs in four innings. There are high chances that he might not get selected in India's playing XI for the upcoming five-match Test series against Australia and that he might have to wait for a long time to make his Test debut.
Suryakumar Yadav backs Gaikwad
On the back of Gaikwad's poor string of performances, India's T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav came in his support. Before the first T20I against South Africa, Suryakumar reckoned that Gaikwad is a brilliant player and has performed consistently in all formats. But he also revealed that there are other players, who are more talented than Gaikwad, and thats why he is getting dropped from consecutive series. But he is optimistic that Gaikwad will bounce back and that he will be selected for the national squad soon.
