New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: Team India batsman KL Rahul on Friday became the fourth fastest Indian to reach 1000 runs in ODI cricket. The 27-year-old reached the milestone in the second ODI between India and Australia played at Saurashtra Cricket Stadium, Rajot. He equalled the record held by Yousuf Youhana, Marucs Trescothik, R Sarwan, Mike Hussey, S Marsh, A Finch and Usman Khawaja. The fastest Indian to score 1000 ODI runs is India skipper Virat Kohli (24) who is followed by Shikhar Dhawan (24 inns) and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu (25).

In the match, KL Rahul scored 80 runs off 52 balls that included six fours and 3 sixes. He was run out off fourth ball in the final over by Aussie wicket-keeper Alex Carey. Top innings from KL down the order! Batting at No.5, he scored at a strike rate of 153.84. Before this, the last time an India batsman scored 50+ at SR of 150+ batting at No. 5 or lower when batting first was in 2013 - Dhoni 62(38) versus Australia at Bengaluru.

Rahul shared a 78-run partnership with skipper Virat Kohli (78) off 10.3 overs was also pivotal as it helped the latter to launch a final assault during the end overs. Earlier in the innings, Shikhar Dhawan scored 96 off 90 deliveries. While Dhawan's innings had 13 fours and a six, Kohli had six hits to the fence including a classic jab-flick. 

As a result, Men in Blue scored 340/6 in 50 overs. Spinner Adam Zampa was once again the stand-out performer for Asutralia. He scalped three wickets for just 50 runs in 10 overs.

In reply, Australia were bowled out for 304 runs. Steve Smith was the top-scorer with 98 runs while Marnus Labuschagne contributed 46 runs. For India, Shami was the pick of the bowleers. He took three wickets for 77 runs in 10 overs while Saini, Yadav and Jadeja scalped two wickets each.
