India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup: As India prepare for the most-talked-about clash of the T20 World Cup 2026, a singular question dominates the narrative - will the star in-form opener Abhishek Sharma be fit to take on his former team? And adding fuel to the speculations, India captain Suryakumar Yadav and mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy provided conflicting updates, adding an extra layer of intrigue to Sunday's eagerly-awaited encounter.

Abhishek, who is suffering from a stomach infection-related problem, had to be hospitalised for a couple of days after complaining of high fever and stomach pain. The opener was discharged from a Delhi hospital on Wednesday, but he didn't train as he is still feeling a bit weak.

Suryakumar struck a note of caution regarding Abhishek's fitness, indicating that the young all-rounder is gradually recovering.

"Abhishek isn't fine still, might take one or two games," skipper Suryakumar said.

However, the words of Varun Chakravarthy tell a different story about Abhishek's recovery. The spinner exudes confidence that the opener looks good to play the marquee T20 clash against Pakistan.

"As far as I have spoken to him, he looks good, he did some practice today also. He told me he is on the way," said Chakravarthy after win over Namibia here.

The young all-rounder, who was hospitalised with a stomach infection, was discharged on Wednesday, having missed India's previous game against Namibia. The aggressive left-handed opener sat out the Namibia game, with Sanju Samson joining Ishan Kishan at the top of the order in his absence.
