T20 World Cup: BCCI VP Backs ICC's Warning To Pakistan Over India Match Boycott, Says 'We Completely Agree'

India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla on Monday backed International Cricket Council's (ICC) stance on Pakistan's decision to boycott their T20 World Cup fixture against India.

The Pakistan government on Sunday officially announced that the Men in Green will participate in the T20 World Cup but will boycott the match against traditional rival India - a political protest seen linked to Bangladesh's removal from the tournament, which was denied its request to relocate matches from India to Sri Lanka due to security concerns.

Following the Pakistan government's decision, the ICC responded strongly, cautioning the Pakistan Cricket Board that boycotting the match against India could result in sanctions.

"While the ICC awaits official communication from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), this position of selective participation is difficult to reconcile with the fundamental premise of a global sporting event where all qualified teams are expected to compete on equal terms per the event schedule," ICC said in a statement.

"ICC tournaments are built on sporting integrity, competitiveness, consistency and fairness, and selective participation undermines the spirit and sanctity of the competitions," the statement further read.

Shukla stated that the BCCI will refrain from making further comments until it holds formal discussions with the ICC.

"The ICC has issued a big statement on this subject. It has highlighted the element of sportsmanship. We completely agree with the ICC. BCCI will not make any comment until we speak to the ICC," Shukla told reporters as quoted by news agency PTI.

The controversy was tormented when Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman was omitted from the IPL on instructions of the BCCI for unspecified reasons. Later, Bangladesh refused to travel to India after that, citing security concerns.

As per reports, India's team is set to travel to Sri Lanka for the T20 World Cup match against Pakistan, with Suryakumar Yadav leading the charge as captain.
