India vs West Indies Tests: Less than 48 hours after their thrilling Asia Cup victory, the Indian cricket team have started preparations for the first Test against the West Indies, with pace ace Jasprit Bumrah, orthodox spinner Kuldeep Yadav, and all-rounder Axar Patel given a brief respite.

As per PTI, Indian players, including skipper Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir, arrived here on the intervening night between Monday and Tuesday. The side trained for nearly three hours here at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

With the World Test Championship series beginning on Thursday and a mere four-day gap since the Asia Cup summit clash on Sunday, India's challenge will be to actually manage player workload.

After the proceedings started with light warm-up and catching, the action moved to the nets where all batters had long stints in the nets, while the other pace bowlers too put in the hard yards.

India's star pacers, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, put in a lively session, bowling for almost 45 minutes as the weather improved, following their five-wicket win in the second four-day unofficial Test for India A against Australia A.

Both the right-arm speedsters were in fine tempo, rendering pace and bounce on practice wicket nets after a spell of rain. Having taken a look at the pitch after its appearance, Gambhir had another look at the surface after India packed up their training.

Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul seemed in supreme touch and so did wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel, who led India A in the second unofficial Test.

B Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal batted with rhythm, whereas skipper Gill struggled, finding himself under pressure from both India's fast bowlers and the throw-down specialist.
