India women vs Australia women 1st ODI Match: Indian women's cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur scripted her name in history books during the first ODI match against Australia at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on Sunday.

Harmanpreet has now become the third Indian cricketer, after Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami, to play 150 WODIs. She made her WODI debut against Pakistan in Bowral on March 7, 2009, and in the last 16 years has scored a total of 4069 runs and picked up 31 wickets.

The right-handed batter has been India's star performer over the years, especially in white-ball cricket. The overall record of playing the most ODIs for India is in the name of former skipper Mithali. The legendary captain played 232 matches during her 23-year-long career from 1999 to 2022 and amassed a total of 7805 runs. She is followed by Jhulan, who played 204 matches and scored 1228 runs in addition to dismissing 255 batters.

Notably, the 36-year-old Harmanpreet is the 10th overall women’s cricketer in the world to play 150 ODIs.

In the 50-over format of the game, Harmanpreet has scored seven centuries and 19 half-centuries so far in his stellar career. Her career-best score in WODIs is 171 not out, which she made against Australia in the 2017 Women’s ODI World Cup.

On Sunday, Harmanpreet managed to score just 11 runs in 9 balls before she was dismissed by Annabel Sutherland. She is all set to lead the Indian team in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, which will be played from September 30 to November 2 in four venues across India and one in Sri Lanka.


Incredible performance from Smriti and Pratika

India were off to a remarkable start after opting to bat first in the first ODI. Openers Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana looked in great touch and capitalised on their promising form.

Both batters scored their respective half-centuries and stitched a 114-run opening stand. Rawal scored 64 runs in 96 balls on the back of six fours. On the other hand, Mandhana made a crucial contribution of 58 runs, hitting six fours and two sixes.
