IND-W vs NZ-W Women's World Cup 2025: India's star opener Smriti Mandhana achieved a new milestone in their Women's World Cup match against New Zealand, which helped her to win her first best fielder medal. She didn't just perform brilliantly with the bat by scoring a match-winning knock of 109 runs, but also showed her fielding prowess.
She had taken a stunning catch of the in-form batter Amelia Kerr, who had scored a gritty knock of 45 runs off 53 balls. She also took catches of Jess Kerr and Rosemary Mair and helped the team win the match by 53 runs, and has now qualified for the semifinals of the ongoing event.
Post the match. Munish Bali, who is the fielding coach, was seen praising all the players for their brilliant efforts on the field and awarded Mandhana. And that's when her fellow teammate Jemimah Rodrigues got involved in a friendly banter with Mandhana.

“That girl had been trying to bribe Bali Sir for so long, saying, ‘Give me a medal, give me a medal.’ But today, she truly earned it with those three catches,” Jemimah was heard as saying in the dressing room.
Mandhana, who was also adjudged the Player of the Match award, was really happy after winning the medal.
“Team me jabse medal dena chalu kia hain, dhai saal se hu, pehli baar mila hain. (Since the time we started giving medals in the team, in the last two and a half years, this is the first time I’ve got one.)” She added.
This light-hearted show showed the bond shared by the players, and the way Mandhana replied to Jemimah's joke showed their competitive culture.
Post reaching the semis, the host will now try to end their group stage on a good note when they will lock horns with Bangladesh on Sunday.
