Mallika Sagar, who recently served as the auctioneer in the WPL Auction 2024, is set to make history by becoming the first-ever female auctioneer for the upcoming IPL Auction 2024 in Dubai, as reported by Cricbuzz. Sagar will replace Huge Edmeades, who conducted the auction last year, and is poised to be the first full-fledged IPL auctioneer from India.
Notably, Charu Sharma briefly took on the role of auctioneer in the 2022 IPL auction when Edmeades unexpectedly collapsed during the event. Mallika Sagar's appointment reflects a significant milestone in the traditionally male-dominated role of auctioneering in cricket.

The auction comes a month after the conclusion of the World Cup 2023, and franchises are likely to show interest in star performers from the tournament, such as Travis Head, Rachin Ravindra, Shardul Thakur, Mitchell Starc, and others, who are expected to attract record-breaking bids. The inclusion of Mallika Sagar as the auctioneer adds an extra layer of significance to this highly anticipated event.
