IPL 2024 Auction: Chennai Super Kings clinched their fifth IPL title last season with a victory over Gujarat Titans in the final as they gear up for the next season, probably the last time under the leadership of MS Dhoni.

As CSK prepare for the IPL 2024 Auction like the other nine teams, former South Africa and RCB star AB De Villiers has made a prediction over a possible move for the title holders.

With a few big Australian names set to go under the hammer on December 19, De Villiers believes that the Aussie skipper Pat Cummins might not be an option for the Dhoni-led side and said that the Men in Yellow can look at better options than the star pacer.

Cummins is one of the players to watch out for alongside countrymates Mitchell Starc and Travis Head in the upcoming IPL 2024 Auction which will take place in Dubai.

De Villiers considers Cummins as a two-format bowler and said that the Aussie star has been a sensational bowler in the longer formats of the game. However, when it came to the T20 format, Cummins hasn't been as effective.

In a video on his YouTube channel, here's what AB de Villiers had to say about CSK's strategy and Pat Cummins:

"I don't see Pat Cummins going to CSK. He has been a bit expensive over the past few years so I don't see T20 as his strongest suit. He is more of an ODI or a Test bowler. But anything can happen in the auction."

"They (CSK) are fairly good in the spin department and I feel they will need a pacer. You will see these guys feature at the backend of the tournament. They always seem to find a way," he added.

When it comes to Chennai Super Kings, they have the likes of Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Deepak Chahar, Mukesh Chowdhary, Simarjeet Singh, Tushar Deshpande, and Matheesha Pathirana as their fast bowling options who also have contributed when it needed.

With just one overseas pacer in the squad, CSK might go for Cummins to bolster their options when it comes to experienced fast bowlers.

Apart from Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, Gerald Coetzee and Azmatullah Omarzai could be the other options for the defending champions.

Meanwhile, the option of Cummins remains ahead considering his leadership skills with Dhoni probably playing his last IPL season.

The Aussie pacer has been brilliant with the captaincy for the national side as he led them to the World Cup win recently and can contribute with the same while playing for CSK as well.

However, it remains to be seen what will be the say of Dhoni on the potential options as he is a character with very limited wishes while going for big names and believes in grooming young players.
