IPL 2024 Auction: The build-up to the IPL 2024 has been so much exciting considering the upcoming auction and it will only increase for good after the auction as well which is scheduled to take place in Dubai on December 19.

In another promising news for the franchises, the IPL trade window is set to reopen on December 20th and close in February 2024 one month before the mega tournament, according to the latest reports.

With the mini-auction approaching, all 10 teams will have a last chance to bolster and shape their squads for the upcoming 17th season of the most popular T20 cricket league.

However, all the IPL franchises have already submitted their teams before the mini-auction after they confirmed their released and retained players ahead of the mini-auction.

There were a few trades also made by some teams and will once again can do so if they want on December 20 as the window will open once again.

In the few trades that happened ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, the biggest talking point was Hardik Pandya's move to his former team Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans as the star all-rounder joined the five-time champions for his second stint.

What is a player trade in IPL and what are the rules?

A trade in the IPL is a player's move from the IPL franchise that has bought him to another franchise during the trading window. This can happen in an all-cash deal or through a player-to-player swap.

The IPL trading window starts after a month of the ending season till a week before the auction date. However, it then continues up until a month before the start of the next edition.

The trading window for the IPL 2024 was open until December 12, with the auction scheduled for December 19. It will open once again on December 20 up to a month before the 2024 season kicks off.

Hardik Pandya was appointed as the new captain of the Mumbai Indians ahead of the upcoming season as he will be taking over the role from Rohit Sharma from IPL 2024.

The decision was not received well by the MI fans as they got major backlash across social media platforms despite the fact that the decision was communicated to the veteran batter a long while before the announcement.

Rohit took over the captaincy role of Mumbai Indians from Ricky Ponting in 2013 and went on to make the side the most successful one with five IPL titles.

When there was talk of Hardik moving back to MI, there were speculations all around for a possible swap move of Rohit going the other way to lead Gujarat Titans. But the five-time title-winning skipper was retained by Mumbai Indians.

Can Rohit Sharma play for a different team in IPL 2024?

As per the fans, Rohit Sharma was insulted by the franchise by removing him from the leadership despite his success as the captain.

So with the trade window set to open on December 20, there is still a chance for Rohit to be traded to a different side as the window allows teams to transfer players who were retained before the auction.

The possible move seems unlikely as the five-time champions might not let go of a player of Rohit's stature as it would only weaken their side

Rohit Sharma was retained by MI for Rs 16 Crore ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. So, if any team wants to trade in the Indian skipper will need to have a remaining purse of Rs 16 Crore plus to execute the trade.

On the other hand, the other teams will prioritise filing their remaining slots with the purse they have under their belt rather than go for a player with that much expense.

There were also reports that Rohit agreed to play under Hardik this season which means that the possibility of his move to any other team most probably might not be witnessed at least this year.
