Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer has been sanctioned for the slow over-rate offence against Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. In a thrilling encounter, Rajasthan clinched a last-ball win at Eden Gardens on Tuesday.

Iyer has been fined Rs 12 lakh for failing to finish 20 overs quota in the allotted time as Rajasthan chased the highest-ever target in the tournament.

"Shreyas Iyer, the Kolkata Knight Riders captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens on April 17," the IPL said in a statement.

"As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakhs," it added.

Jos Buttler smashed an unbeaten 107 off 60 balls as Rajasthan Royals came back from the dead to beat Kolkata Knight Riders by two wickets on Tuesday night. Fittingly, Buttler hit the winning runs.

The Englishman was struggling to even walk towards the end but didn't give up. Chasing a record 224, Royals were 121 for six in the 13th over.

After the conclusion of the game, Iyer called it a 'good learning' despite coming close to winning the match.

"It’s a funny game at the end of the day, he was striking the ball cleanly and timing them so well, have to take it on the chin and move on. I mean at this point of time you see that you bowl your best deliveries, a little bit hit or miss and you are sent out of the ground, it’s good that it happened now rather than it happening in the later stages of the tournament, good learning for us," he said in the post-match presentation.

With eight points in six matches, KKR sit at the second spot in the IPL 2024 points table.
