Samson took the attack to the New Zealand bowlers, using his stroke-making ability to find boundaries and keep India’s chase moving. His innings was crucial after the hosts set a daunting target, with their batters taking advantage of the conditions to cross the 200-run mark.
Samson scripted history with his quickfire half-century against New Zealand, becoming the wicketkeeper with the most 50-plus scores at a strike rate of 200 or more in T20 internationals.
Sanju has achieved the feat seven times, moving ahead of England’s Jos Buttler, who has done it six times, while South Africa’s Quinton de Kock sits third with four such innings.

Samson’s half-century gave India a strong foundation, but the visitors still needed contributions from the remaining batters to complete the chase. With the required rate remaining demanding, partnerships and scoring boundaries would be key to their chances.
New Zealand, meanwhile, needed wickets to halt India’s momentum and defend their imposing total in the series opener.
