On his first match after a break, Virat Kohli achieved a huge feat as he became the first Indian to score 12,000 T20 runs during the Indian Premier League (IPL) season opener against Chennai Super Kings.
Kohli was just six runs short of completing 12,000 runs in T20s. He reached the milestone in the first clash of the Royal Challengers Bangalore at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday. He is the sixth batter to accumulate 12,000 T20 runs. He joined the exclusive list of players including Chris Gayle, Shoaib Malik, Kieron Pollard, Alex Hales and David Warner.
The 35-year-old also became the second-fastest batter to reach the feat in his 360th T20 innings, only behind Chris Gayle, who reached the milestone in only 343 innings. Kohli surpassed Warner, who completed 12,000 T20 runs in 368 innings.

India captain Rohit Sharma (11,156) is the other Indian batter who will soon join Kohli in the elite list.
Coming back on Kohli, the former RCB captain has slammed eight centuries and 41 fifties in the shortest format of the game. He is the leading run-scorer in the IPL with over 7,000 runs. He is also the highest run-getter in the T20I circuit with 4,037 runs for India.

Kohli also completed 1,000 T20 runs against Chennai Super Kings, becoming the second batter after Warner to achieve the feat against Chennai-based franchise.
