IPL 2025 Mega auction: In a surprising turn of events for the IPL 2025 mega auction, England's star fast bowler Jofra Archer's name has been included in the shortlist for the two-day event, which will be held in Jeddah later this week. The IPL 2025 mega auction will be held on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, where 574 players will be going under the hammer.
A lot of star cricketers missed out on the shortlist, like Cameron Green, Ben Stokes, and Jofra Archer. But Archer changed his decision and made it to the shortlist at the 11th hour.
In a surprising turn of events, England's star pacer has made himself available for the IPL 2025 mega auction. Archer, who was one of the notable absentees from the list of 37 England players, who made it to the shortlist, has now made a U-turn as he has now fully recovered from all the injuries.
Initially, the youngster had pulled out from the cash-rich tournament as he wanted to prepare for the 2025 Ashes, which would be held in Australia, as the new rules of the IPL wouldn't have allowed him to participate in the mini-auction. But after negotiating with the ECB, BCCI, and player agents, Archer has got a NOC from the ECB and has entered his name in the auction list of 574 players, who would be going under the hammer.
Matt Kabir Floyd, who is a cricket broadcaster, shed light on Archer's availability and said, "Mark Wood and Jofra Archer were on the initial longlist but weren't shortlisted as the ECB initially denied them NOCs. Negotiations are ongoing to address this issue."
Archer, who was bought by Mumbai Indians for a whopping amount of Rs 8 crore in the 2022 IPL mega auction, had sustained lots of injuries. He didn't feature in a single match in IPL 2022 and played in just four matches in IPL 2023, where he then picked up another elbow injury. Despite all these, he still has the skills to bowl fiery overs and that has made him a sought-after asset.
Archer will trigger at the IPL 2025 mega auction due to his raw pace and match-winning abilities. It remains to be seen as to which team will acquire his services at the upcoming auction.
He has played 40 IPL matches till now and has taken 48 wickets.
