IPL 2025, GT vs PBKS: Punjab Kings were in high spirits, extending their dominance beyond the cricket field to the social media realm during their IPL 2025 opener against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.

While the batters were busy demolishing runs on the field, their social media team was in a similar explosive mood, with a series of posts on X, engaging in some friendly banter and keeping their minds entertained.

The Punjab Kings took the chance to tease Gujarat Titans' bad fielding by posting a very famous meme of former Pakistan cricketers Saeed Ajmal and Shoaib Malik.

Early drama unfolded during second-over action in which Priyansh Arya sought to take on Kagiso Rabada bowling his first over for Gujarat Titans. The aggressive batter hailing from Delhi pursued a statement-making entry into the IPL but ended up with a top-edged shot that could have had him dismissed if only luck had been on GT's side.

As the ball sailed high into the night sky, it seemed that Arya's innings was fast edging toward the end. In a last-ditch attempt to complete the catch, Rashid Khan and Arshad Khan were both seen sprinting backwards from within the 30-yard circle, chasing the ball.

However, a comical mix-up between Rashid Khan and Arshad Khan resulted in the ball dropping harmlessly to the ground, falling between the two fielders.

The dropped catch proved to be a costly mistake as Priyansh Arya, who was given a second chance on 6, capitalized on the reprieve to unleash a blistering 47-run knock off just 23 balls.

Punjab Kings took to social media to refer to a viral meme which included the infamous dropped catch in a match between Pakistan and the West Indies in Abu Dhabi in 2008.

This incident saw Saeed Ajmal and Shoaib Malik, cricketers from Pakistan, dropping a catch owing to poor communication among themselves, much like the third-wicket-fielder miscommunication happening in the ongoing match of Gujarat Titans.

Talking about the match, skipper Shreyas Iyer began his stint at Punjab Kings with a scintillating 42-ball unbeaten 97 to power his team to an imposing 243 for five against Gujarat Titans in their Indian Premier League match here on Tuesday.
