IPL 2026 Retention: Devon Conway won't be playing for CSK in IPL 2026, which has ended his three-year stint with the team. The Kiwi opener, who had been playing for CSK since IPL 2022, had become a fan favourite owing to his calm batting style. But he had a forgetful outing in IPL 2025, which led to both him and Rachin Ravindra getting released.
CSK had roped in Conway for a whopping amount of Rs 6.25 crore last year, whereas Ravindra was retained with RTM option for Rs 4.25 crore.
What Conway & Rachin Did For CSK?
Conway had a forgetful outing in 2025, after giving IPL 2024 a miss. Since he was a star performer in IPL 2023, where he had scored 672 runs after playing in 15 matches at a staggering average of 51.69, he failed to repeat his heroics post-rejoining the team. In IPL 2025, he had scored 156 runs after playing in six matches, at an average of 26 and a strike rate of 131.09. Since he was bought for Rs 6.25 cr last year, the team expected more from him as an opener. He was unable to give the team a strong start, and that's why they failed to qualify for the playoffs.

In his first season in IPL 2022, Conway had smashed 252 runs after playing in seven matches at an average of 42 and a strike rate of 145.66. He had a dream run in IPL 2023, where he was their third-highest run-scorer and had also played a huge role in helping them lift the title in the final by scoring 47 off 25 balls. In three seasons, he had scored 1080 runs after playing in 29 matches at an average of 43.20 and a strike rate of 139.72.
After joining CSK in 2024, Rachin had scored 413 runs after playing in 18 innings at a strike rate of 143.60. He might have hit just two fifties, but he often struggled to give a good start to the team.

By releasing Conway, the team has made some major changes before the next season. As per a report, a lot of players like Rahul Tripathi, Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, and Jamie Overton will also be released.

But the most notable trade deal was Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran going to RR as India's star wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson joined CSK.
