IPL 2026: Australia's Shane Warne wasn't just a legendary spinner but also a great visionary, who was well aware when and how to place the correct bets. When he was the Rajasthan Royals skipper during the IPL's first season, he included a clause in his contract that would help his family earn a huge reward after 20 years. This clause was introduced after the Rajasthan Royals were sold to a US-based consortium led by Kal Somani for a whopping USD 1.63 billion.
When the Royals signed Warne before the first season, he was named captain and given control of cricket operations. Under this deal, Warne received a 0.75% stake in the club for each season he played.
“Part of my deal… they asked me to be the captain, coach, and run a cricket team the way I wanted… I was the one-stop shop,” Warne was quoted as saying to the Herald Sun.

Warne represented the Rajasthan Royals for four seasons, including their 2008 title win. His ownership rose to 3%. With the team's USD 1.63 billion sale, his share is now valued at Rs 450-460 crore.
His family will sell these shares and receive the funds after IPL 2026, pending BCCI approval.
Manoj Badale-led Emerging Media first bought the franchise for USD 67 million in the initial season.
