IPL Tickets: With the restructuring of the GST slabs, the Indian Premier League (IPL) tickets are all set to get costlier for the fans. The experience of watching a live match from the stadium has always been a 'surreal' experience for the fans as they will have to pay 12% more GST on the base price of a ticket.

Notably, the tax slab has increased from 28% to 40%. For instance, if a base price for a ticket is Rs 1000, then the final price after GST will be Rs 1400 from now onwards, which was Rs 1280 earlier.

According to a Ministry of Finance release issued late on Wednesday, "Admission to casinos, race clubs, any place having casinos or race clubs or sporting events like IPL will have GST of 40 percent with ITC (Input Tax Credit).

There is no denying the fact that the IPL, being the most lucrative franchise league in Indian sports and cricket, will bear the brunt of this restructuring. However, there is no clarity on leagues like the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) or the Indian Super League (ISL).

GST On International Games To Remain 18%

India's international games will be grouped under sporting events, which would cost 18 per cent on tickets priced above Rs 500.

Interestingly, no GST will be levied on tickets priced below Rs 500.

The rule states: "Admission to other sporting events including recognised sporting events where the ticket price is not more than `500 continues to be exempt, and if the ticket price is more than Rs. 500, it continues to be taxed at the standard rate of 18 per cent."

As far as IPL is concerned, the ticketing is not controlled by the BCCI and every franchise decides the rates at their respective home grounds.
