Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024: Ishan Kishan scored a brilliant unbeaten knock of 77 runs off just 23 balls at the Wankhede stadium and helped his home state Jharkhand defeat Arunachal Pradesh on Friday. He scored this brilliant knock shortly after he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad at the IPL 2025 mega auction and he thus made a brilliant comeback to his former home ground as he had represented Mumbai Indians for seven years.

The Jharkhand bowlers helped the team win the match as they skittled Andhra Pradesh out for just 93 runs. Anukul Roy was the pick among the bowlers as he registered figures of 4/17. Kishan then didn't waste any time chasing the gettable target, as he went all-guns-blazing by smashing lots of fours and sixes during the first partnership itself. Utkarsh Singh, who was the other opener, played just six balls and scored 13 runs as Kishan was the only one who dominated the whole innings.

Kishan's brilliant knock was all the way special as he has joined an elite list of batters, who had scored a half-century in the shortest format at a strike rate of 300 at the Wankhede stadium. Kishan went all guns-blazing against the Arunachal bowlers at a strike rate of 334.78 and apart from him the legendary West Indies batter Kieron Pollard and Suresh Raina are the only ones to have achieved this milestone.

MI's RTM snub and Kishan's SRH move

His recent IPL auction purchase made his brilliant Syed Mushtaq Ali performance at the Wankhede stadium ironic. He was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a whopping amount of Rs 11.25 crore as they were involved in a bidding war with his ex-IPL team MI. Mumbai Indians did show interest initially but they stopped after bidding the price at Rs 3.40 crore. Then Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings entered the bidding war and then SRH joined in and eventually outbade all its competitors.

The five-time IPL champions didn't use their RTM card options and thus left Ishan to begin a new IPL journey with SRH. He was also released by SRH due to his poor performance in IPL 2024, where he scored just 320 runs after playing in 14 matches, at an average of 28.25 and a strike rate of 148.83.

SRH's new look

At Sunrisers Hyderabad, Ishan Kishan will play as a wicket-keeper batter along with Heinrich Klaasen and has thus strengthebed their batting lineup. The franchise also roped in Mohammed Shami for Rs 10 crore and Harshal Patel for Rs 8 crore and has thus rebuilt the whole squad for the next season.

As Kishan begins his new IPL journey with a new team, his brilliant knock at Wankhede reminded everyone that he does have the talent and potential to perform brilliantly at any point.
