India's new T20I captain Shreyas Iyer opened up about his close bond with former India captain and Mumbai teammate Rohit Sharma ahead of the five-match T20I series against England, which is scheduled to start from July 1.
Shreyas Iyer for Rohit Sharma
Rohit, who has already retired from Test and T20I cricket, is currently taking a break with his family after finishing his IPL 2026 commitments. The veteran opener is expected to return to international action during the three-match ODI series against England, which will start on July 14.
Ahead of the T20I series opener, the BCCI shared a video in which Iyer reflected on his relationship with Rohit. The newly-appointed skipper said talking to Rohit has always been easy and compared it to having a conversation with an elder brother. He also credited the former captain for supporting him during his domestic cricket journey.

"Interacting with Rohit Sharma, it's like you're just having a chat with your brother. He's the sort of figure who has also helped me in my domestic career. So it's always been easy to interact with him," Iyer said.
Shreyas Iyer for Suryakumar Yadav
Iyer, who recently replaced Suryakumar Yadav as India's T20I captain, also praised his predecessor. Having played a lot of domestic cricket together, Iyer said Suryakumar shared valuable advice with him before the England series, especially about the team's environment and the players.
"Surya (Suryakumar Yadav), again, similar character. I've played with him a lot of domestic cricket and just before coming here he gave me inputs about how the management is going to be, how the players are going to be in this certain situation. So yes, definitely decent interaction and a lot to learn at the same time," he said.
