After a brief break following the ODI World Cup campaign, India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has started gearing up for the upcoming Test series in South Africa. Bumrah was among the senior players who were rested for the five-match T20I series before the start of the all-format tour in South Africa.

India are set to play three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests. Bumrah has been rested for the white-ball matches and will only play in Tests, starting on December 26 in Centurion.

Earlier in August, Bumrah made his international come back after a long injury layoff. He captained India in T20Is against Ireland before leading the pace attack in the Asia Cup and World Cup.

The veteran of 30 Tests is set to play his first red-ball game after a gap of more than 1.5 years. He missed the home series against Australia and the World Test Championship final against the same opponent due to a back injury.

Interestingly, Bumrah made his Test debut against South Africa in 2018 in Centurion and bagged 14 wickets in the three-match series. In India's previous tour of South Africa in 2021-2022, Bumrah spearheaded the Indian pace attack and picked 12 wickets in three games.

Apart from Bumrah, India captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will join the squad for the Test series after opting for a break from the white-ball series against the Proteas.

India will start their all-format tour with the T20I clash under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav in Durban on Sunday, December 10.
