The Indian cricket fans had high hopes in the morning early getting up to see a gripping contest between Rohit Sharma's India and Australia in the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

But their thrill in the day soon dwindled into a disappointing turn of events, leading to a frustrating day as the day's play failed to live up to their expectations.

The first session of Day One's play was marred by incessant rains after India opted to field first. Contrary to conditions that are generally conducive to swing bowlers, it proved to be a challenge for the pacers to swing the ball.

There was such a restriction on play in the morning when it only lasted 13.2 overs before the second shower forced the players to take an early lunch.

In the fifth over of the match, Jasprit Bumrah tried to make things different by not using the same length over and inducing movement for the Australian openers. However, after a few balls, it was clear that the conditions were not for swing bowling, no matter where he put the ball.

“Nahi ho raha swing, kahin bhi kar (There is no swing no matter where you bowl)," Bumrah was heard over the stump microphone.

On the other hand, there was the show of gritting determination by Australian openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney who carefully weathered Jasprit Bumrah's first spell. They played well within themselves and dug a really good hole for Australia to end up at 28 without losing a wicket against India in the rain-interrupted first session.
