IPL 2025 Retentions: England white-ball skipper Jos Buttler shared a heartwarming post for Rajasthan Royals after he was released by them ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auctions. The franchise retained its core group of Indian players. Captain Sanju Samson was retained at Rs 18 crore and Yashasvi Jaiswal too was retained at the same price. Young batters Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel were retained at the prize of Rs 14 crore. Sandeep Sharma was too retained as an uncapped player for Rs 4 crore. Shimron Hetmyer was one of the overseas players to be retained by the franchise for Rs 11 crore.
Buttler, who has been a mainstay for Rajasthan Royals, wasn't retained by them. England's white-ball captain being released by them surprised everyone. He has been a part of this franchise since 2018. In the last few years, he has played a huge role in helping them win important matches with his explosive batting, while both chasing and setting targets. Buttler took to his official Instagram account and shared a heartwarming post, where he revealed that he had experienced some of the best moments of his career with this franchise.

"If it turns out that this is the end, thank you Rajasthan Royals, and everyone involved with the franchise for 7 incredible seasons together. 2018 kickstarted the best years of my cricketing career and many of my most cherished memories have come in a Pink shirt over the last 6 years. Thank you for welcoming me and my family with open arms. Could write so much more but let's leave it there," he had written on his official Instagram account.
Why was Buttler released?
He had played in 11 matches for RR this year, where he scored 359 runs and that also includes two centuries at a strike rate of 140.78.
Of all the IPL 2025 retention lists revealed by the franchises, none of them had retained any England player as English cricketers like Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Phil Salt, and Will Jacks were released by all the 10 teams.
