MS Dhoni News: Former India captain MS Dhoni has decided to record his statement as Madras High Court ordered the beginning of a trial in a Rs 100 crore defamation case filed by the Cricketer. Notably, two popular media channels and a journalist are being named in the trial for involving Dhoni's name in the 2013 IPL betting scandal.

Madras HC Justice CV Karthikeyan has called upon an advocate commissioner who will record the statement on behalf of Dhoni.

Will MS Dhoni Appear In Court?

The 44-year-old presence could lead to 'chaos' as the Cricketer has been exempted to visit the court on account of being a celebrity.

Interestingly, Dhoni filed the defamation suit of Rs 100 crore against the defendants for not only using his name but defamatory remarks against him in regards to the sensational IPL betting scandal which rocked Indian Cricket.

Senior counsel PR Raman, filed an affidavit, for asking the trial to get started which has stayed pending for over a decade, the report in The Hindu stated.

“The above request is made with the intent to avoid any undue delay (in disposal of the suit pending in the High Court for over a decade) and to support the fair, just, and speedy adjudication of the suit. I state that I shall extend my full co-operation with the Advocate Commissioner and comply with all directions issued by this honourable court regarding the trial and the recording of evidence," the affidavit read.

IPL Spot-Fixing And Betting Scandal

The cash rich league has been marred by the IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal of 2013, which is considered to be the 'biggest' blot on Indian Cricket. The scandal took down the career of several Cricketers as well as Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals – faced suspension for two years due to their involvement.

Dhoni has been a mainstay for the franchise ever since it got unbanned in 2018.
