WPL 2026: The first mega auction of the Women's Premier League will be held in New Delhi. As per Cricbuzz, “The Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction will be held in New Delhi. A formal communication has not yet been sent to the franchises, but the teams have all been told informally about the likely venue."

According to the report, the date hasn't been finalized yet, but the auction will be held on either November 26 or 27.

“The auction is expected to be wrapped up in a single day despite it being, theoretically, a mega event. With only five teams in the WPL and a maximum squad size of 18 players, the process is unlikely to take long, even if as many as 90 players were to be auctioned," the report said.

Teams are allowed to retain 5 players

All WPL teams can retain up to five players until the mega auction, with the retention deadline set for November 5, according to the report.

All the franchises had received an email earlier this month stating that each team is allowed to retain three capped Indian players, two overseas players, and two uncapped Indian players. However, if a team retains all five players, it should at least include one uncapped Indian player.

It will be the first time that all the WPL teams will be allowed to use the RTM option in the mega auction, which will help them to buy back all those players who were part of the team in WPL 2025. All the team can have five RTMs, which will decrease depending on the number of players retained before the auction.

The availability of RTM will also depend on the number of players a team retains. If all five slots are used, then the RTM option will be unavailable. If teams retain 4 players, then they will have one RTM, three players will help them two RTMs, two players will help them three RTMs, and one retention will allow 4 RTMs.

What’s the auction purse?

The auction purse for WPL 2026 is Rs 15 crore for all the teams. There are guideline prices for player retention, which have been divided into five parts: Rs 3.5 crore for Player 1, Rs 2.5 crore for Player 2, Rs 1.75 crore for Player 3, Rs 1 crore for Player 4, and Rs 50 lakh for Player 5.

Depending on all those players retained, an amount will be deducted from the team's auction purse. If a team retains five players, then Rs 9.25 crore will be deducted; for four players, Rs 8.75 crore; for three, Rs 7.75 crore; for two, Rs 6 crore; and for one, Rs 3.5 crore.
