Rohit Sharma has finally addressed the speculations surrounding his retirement, calling them just that 'rumours'. The legendary batter spoke about the speculation on his television show, Family Full House with Rohit Sharma, while answering a question about the biggest rumours he had heard about himself.

The discussion also featured actress Karisma Kapoor and actor Chunky Pandey, who shared rumours they had heard about themselves. While Kapoor spoke about speculation surrounding her diet and Pandey addressed claims about being miserly, Rohit used the opportunity to respond to reports about his future in cricket.

“The rumor I have heard about me, the rumor I did hear and I am still hearing, is that I am going to retire,” Rohit said.

He then added that he hoped the rumours surrounding all three of them had been put to rest.

Why Have Rohit Sharma’s Retirement Rumours Returned?

Speculation about Rohit’s future gathered pace ahead of India’s tour of England. Despite the reports, the Mumbai batter continued to play, and questions about his plans remained a topic of discussion.

Reports suggested that the then chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, was looking beyond Rohit for the 2027 ODI World Cup and wanted to bring Yashasvi Jaiswal into the picture.

According to reports, Agarkar had asked South Zone selector Pragyan Ojha, who shares a close friendship with Rohit, to convey the message to the senior batter.

Rohit was reportedly unhappy with the development and approached some BCCI officials to raise his concerns. There was also speculation that he could announce his retirement after the final ODI against England at Lord’s.

However, Rohit continued to play, and his latest comments have brought the retirement discussion back into focus.

The speculation around Rohit’s ODI future also brought back memories of his Test retirement in May 2025.

At the time, reports emerged that he was no longer part of India’s plans in the longest format. Soon afterwards, Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket through a social media post.

The timing of that announcement led to further discussion about his future in international cricket, especially with the 2027 ODI World Cup still ahead.
