Kane Williamson completes 9000 Test runs, NZ vs ENG 1st Test:

Kane Williamson, New Zealand's talismanic batter scripted his name in the record books during the first Test against England in Christchurch on Saturday.

Williamson completed his 9000 Test runs on the third day of the series opener at the Hagley Oval, becoming the first-ever cricketer from New Zealand to achieve the enormous feat.

Williamson also became the third-joint fastest batter to do so after Australia's Steve Smith and West Indies legend Brian Lara.

The historic instance for Williamson came when he took a single off Gus Atkinson during the 18th over of New Zealand's 2nd innings.

Williamson became the third-fastest batter alongside Kumar Sangakkara and Younis Khan to achieve the feat in 103 matches.

The 34-year-old went on to smash a promising half-century in the second innings as well after playing a 93-run knock in the first innings.

Day 3 of the match witnessed a remarkable batting effort from England in the morning session as they posted a huge total of 499 in their first innings.

They continued their attacking brand of cricket on the back of Harry Brook's 171-run knock whereas skipper Ben Stokes made a crucial contribution of 80 runs.

Having scored 348 runs in their first innings after being put into bat first, New Zealand lost two quick wickets in their second innings.

However, Williamson once again bailed his side out of the trouble and added crucial runs with Rachin Ravindra (24) before stitching a big partnership with Daryl Mitchell.

Ross Taylor stands second in the list of most Test runs for New Zealand as the veteran batter ended his career with 7683 runs to his name.

He is followed by former skipper Stephen Fleming (7172 runs) at third and Brendon McCullum (6453 runs) in the fourth position.
