New Zealand have suffered another blow in the ODI World Cup 2023 as injured pacer Matt Henry has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament with a torn right hamstring.

Kyle Jamieson has replaced Henry in New Zealand squad ahead of the high-stake clash against Pakistan at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday.

"Henry sustained the injury during Wednesday’s match against South Africa in Pune, with an MRI scan confirming he has a grade two lower tear which will require at least two to four weeks to recover from," New Zealand Cricket said in a statement.

New Zealand have been battling with multiple injuries in their squad including to regular skipper Kane Williamson.

On Henry's injury, head coach Gary Stead said he is disappointed with the news and the pacer will be missed in the tournament.

“We’re gutted for him. Matt’s been a crucial part of our One Day side for a long time and to see him ruled out as we reach the business end of this tournament is immensely disappointing," Stead said in Bengaluru.

“He’s consistently been ranked inside the ICC top 10 ODI bowlers for the past few years which is a testament to his class and skills. Moreover, Matt’s a great team man and we’re all going to miss his personality and experience," he added.

Stead said Jamieson will be available for Saturday's game against Pakistan after he arrived in Bengaluru late on Thursday.

“We’re fortunate to have a player of the class of Kyle waiting in the wings. His skills and physical attributes always make him a threat with the ball and it’s an added bonus he was able to train with us in the first two weeks of the tournament," he said.

“Kyle’s had to work really hard to return from two separate back injuries and I know he’s really excited about being involved in his first ODI World Cup," Stead added.

New Zealand are placed at the fourth spot in the points table with eight points in seven matches. They will play against Pakistan and Sri Lanka respectively in their remaining two league matches in Bengaluru.
