ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025: The ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025 is yet to start but the tournament has witnessed an early controversy. The tournament is scheduled to be played in India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2.

While all the participating teams will gather in India, the dedicated host nation, the Pakistani women’s team will set their base in Sri Lanka as the tournament will be played in a hybrid model, as per which the Women in Green will play all of their matches in the island nation. The decision was taken amid the rising diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan.

In an interesting turn of events, the Pakistan team, which will be led by Fatima Sana, will not take part in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 opening ceremony, which will take place in Guwahati. According to Pakistani news outlet Geo Super, neither the skipper nor any Pakistani team representative will be present at the event.

Notably, the grand opening ceremony will witness the jaw-dropping stage performance from the renowned Indian singer Shreya Ghoshal ahead of the tournament's first match between India and Sri Lanka on September 30.

A recent policy agreement following the Pahalgam Terror Attack and Operation Sindoor has impacted the scheduling of the upcoming ICC events. As per the understanding, both nations have decided not to cross borders for ICC events over the next three years due to ongoing political tensions. Notably, India haven't not toured Pakistan since 2008, and the concerning diplomatic ties continue to affect sporting relations.

Earlier this year, India avoided travelling to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy and played their matches in Dubai, eventually lifting the title as well

As a result, Pakistan also won't be travelling to India for the Women’s World Cup and all of their games are scheduled to take place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
