Australian captain Pat Cummins, who recently played six test matches (1 WTC Final + 5 Ashes Tests), is in danger of being ruled out of the 3-match ODI series againt India to be played in September. As per reports, Cummins played the fifth test at the Oval with a suspected broken wrist.

Notably, the Australian contingent will fly to India for the ODI series, which is slated to begin on September 22 in Mohali just before the all important World Cup 2023 starting in October.

However, "two sources with knowledge of the matter but not authorised to speak publicly say medical staff have not ruled out a possible fracture," according to the 'Sydney Morning Herald'.

During the final Ashes Test at the Oval last week, the star Australian fast bowler suffered a wrist injury on the opening day. Despite the setback, he bravely soldiered on, playing the rest of the Test match with a heavily-strapped wrist. Surprisingly, the injury did not seem to affect his bowling prowess, but it was evident that he felt discomfort while batting.

After a grueling two months of cricket, which included six Tests, including the World Test Championship final against India, it was no surprise that Cummins was in need of a well-deserved break.

Cricket Australia (CA) is expected to unveil the squads for Australia's upcoming white-ball tours of South Africa and India in the following week. In Cummins' absence, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh is the front-runner to lead the team. Notably, Marsh is also in contention for the position of Australia's T20 skipper.

In an earlier instance of Cummins being unavailable, Steve Smith successfully captained the Australian side during their tour of India earlier this year. Looking ahead, Australia's schedule includes a series of three T20Is and five ODIs against South Africa, commencing on August 30. Following this, they are slated to travel to India for additional ODIs.

Fans around the world eagerly await the squad announcement and are excited to witness captivating cricket action during the upcoming white-ball series.
