Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq as Pakistan's chief selector ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup. The veteran batter has replaced Haroon Rasheed, who left the post a month earlier.

As per the ESPNcricinfo report, Inzamam will no longer be part of the PCB's cricket technical committee, which he was appointed to last week.

Inazamam previously held the role from 2016 to 2019. The batter, who has played 120 Tests and 378 ODIs and scored over 20,500 runs in international cricket, will have a huge role to play. His first task will be to pick the Pakistan squad for three ODIs against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka ahead of the Asia Cup 2023.

As per the report, Pakistan squads for the series against Afghanistan and Asia Cup will be announced by Inzamam on August 10. In a crucial year, the former captain will also be responsible for selecting Pakistan ODI World Cup squad, scheduled to be played in India from October 5 to November 19.

On Sunday, the Pakistan government gave approval for its team to travel to India for the marquee event saying that "sports should not be mixed with politics".

Inzamam and Mohammad Hafeez were both included in the PCB's cricket technical committee last week, which is led by Misbah-ul-Haq. The committee was formed to give recommendations for national selection committees.

“The CTC (Cricket Technical Committee) will provide recommendations on cricket-related matters, including, but not limited to the overall domestic structure, scheduling, playing conditions, the appointment of the national selection committees, the appointment of national team coaches, central and domestic contracts and plans for the development of umpires, referees and curators," PCB had said in a statement.

"The CTC will have the powers to invite additional cricket experts, and shall report to the head of the PCB Management Committee on a regular basis," it added.

ESPNcricinfo received confirmation from the PCB that Inzamam's replacement on the technical committee would be revealed in due course. The chief selector will receive a salary even if his or her position on the cricket technical committee was unpaid.
