Ace India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin emphasised the significance of the Decision Review System (DRS) in domestic cricket, mentioning India D batter Ricky Bhui's controversial LBW dismissal against India C bowler Manav Suthar in the Duleep Trophy on Friday.
Ashwin said that Bhui's method, which resulted in his dismissal for 44, was flawed and doubtful of success at the top level, and he commended DRS for disclosing this technical flaw, emphasizing its importance in helping players in recognising and fixing their errors.
However, DRS uncovered the error, and the LBW ruling was properly reversed. Ashwin noted that while Bhui may have gotten away with this tactic in domestic cricket, it would be exploited at the international level.
The Indian spinner took to social networking platform X (previously Twitter) to express his views on the advantages of DRS in domestic cricket. He stated that using DRS in domestic games can ultimately help batters improve their technique since it determines faults that would otherwise go undiscovered. By addressing these technical concerns early on, Ashwin feels that players would be better ready to compete on the international stage, where DRS is also used.
DRS for domestic cricket is not just for the right decisions to be made.

Ricky Bhuvi’s dismissal last evening against Manav Suthar is a classic case of a batter who will get away with this technique 10/10 times in FC cricket.
This was not a faulty technique pre DRS but now it… pic.twitter.com/Ip2BXHgJBe
"DRS for domestic cricket is not just for the right decisions to be made. Ricky Bhuvi’s dismissal last evening against Manav Suthar is a classic case of a batter who will get away with this technique 10/10 times in FC cricket. This was not a faulty technique pre DRS but now it is. Back in the day batters were given not out just because they managed to get on the front foot," Ashwin wrote on X.
"Now, keeping your bat behind the pad can be fatal, imagine someone making the climb to international cricket without getting this experience Ricky got yesterday. He could very well take an entire test series to understand what he needs to work on and his career could well be over. This is a fab experience for more than just one reason," he added.
Meanwhile, in the present Duleep Trophy, India C is in a dominating position in their match against India D, requiring only 124 runs to win with eight wickets in hand.
