Ranji Trophy: Veteran batter Manoj Tiwary achieved a milestone figure of crossing 10,000 runs in first-class cricket while playing for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match against Assam at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

Tiwary, aged 38, became the fourth player from Bengal to reach this feat, joining the esteemed company of Pankaj Roy, Arun Lal, and Sourav Ganguly.

The right-handed batter, who reversed his decision to retire last year, needed 38 runs to achieve the landmark before the match. He also went on to score his 30th first-class ton in his 145th match. The batter now has 10062 runs in 229 innings with a highest score of unbeaten 303 runs.

Tiwary expressed his joy by sharing a video of the celebration with his Bengal teammates.

After a modest start in the Ranji Trophy, scoring 54 runs in three matches against Andhra, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, he found his form against Assam. Coming to bat with Bengal struggling at 57 for 4, Tiwary showcased his experience, guiding his team out of a challenging position.

At the end of Day 1, Bengal stood at 242 for 4 in 78 overs, with Tiwary unbeaten on 68 off 182 balls. On the subsequent day, he achieved his 30th first-class century, contributing nine boundaries. Tiwary also played a crucial role in a partnership of 211 runs with Anustup Majumdar, who scored 125 runs off 235 balls with 16 fours.

As the match progressed to Day 3, Bengal reached 327/7 at lunch, aiming to post a big total.
