IND vs ENG 3rd Test: Ex-India head coach Ravi Shastri has reckoned that no one in the world would doubt the potential that KL Rahul has, but what left everyone frustrated was that despite being so talented, he wasn't able to perform, and that didn't help him. After scoring 375 runs by playing in three Test matches, which includes two centuries and a half-century, he is the country's fourth-highest run-scorer in the ongoing series and is just behind captain Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Jamie Smith.

Ravi Shastri has heaped praises on KL Rahul for his recent performances. He has come out in support of Rahul to continue performing in this way.

“I think there wasn’t one person in the world who denied his potential and said that he [Rahul] wasn’t talented. What annoyed people was that, with that kind of talent, he wasn’t delivering," Shastri was quoted as saying in ICC Review.

“And in this series, you’re seeing the best of Rahul. What I am seeing is a slight adjustment he’s made with his front foot, in his stance, and while defending. It just opened up a bit, which allows his back to come through cleanly," he said.

The ex-India head coach also highlighted the technical changes Rahul made to bounce back to form.

“He does not need to close the face of the blade and fall over and get into trouble like he used to in the past. He would get out LBW, would get out bowled, he would get across too far and then be out LBW as well," he added.

“He is sound technically, and he has been as good as anyone. Especially, it has not moved a lot in the series, but when it has moved, he has had the game to look after that movement," he said.

His recent consistent performances have helped him score the second-fastest century in the longest format in England, besides Rahul Dravid.

As per Shastri, the 33-year-old Rahul is currently in his peak form in this format, and thus, it might be the beginning of his dominance in this format.

“He’s at his prime. He has got to make these next three or four years count. And I see him getting a lot of hundreds because he’s playing a lot of cricket in India as well. So whatever that average is, he should be close to 50," he concluded.
