India's star all-rounder Jadeja provided a major update on his ODI future on the sidelines of the ongoing second Test against the West Indies. Jadeja had a remarkable outing on the second day of the match as he took three wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Jadeja was not included in India's 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, starting from October 19. While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli made their much-awaited returns to the format, Jadeja's absence raised a few eyebrows, and many speculated that the senior cricketer might have played his last game for India in the ODIs.

Jadeja, who was part of the Indian team that won the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year, said that he wasn't surprised by his exclusion from the ODI team because the selectors, coach Gautam Gambhir, and captain Shubman Gill had informed him and explained the reasons for it beforehand. The 36-year-old hasn't given up on his chances for the ODI World Cup 2027.

"I want to play [ODIs], but it’s not in my hands," Jadeja said at the post-day press conference. “At the end of the day, the team management, captain, and the coach think a certain way. They must have a reason for not selecting me for this series. They did speak to me; it wasn’t a surprise to me. I didn’t find out until the team was announced. That’s good that the captain, the selectors, and the coach informed me about their thinking," Jadeja said at the end of the second day's play in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, Jadeja has been going through an incredible form in Test cricket and has impressed in the ongoing series against the West Indies as well. His effort reduced the West Indies to 140/4 at stumps. He headed into the match on the back of a remarkable hundred in the first Test in Ahmedabad, where he was adjudged as the Player of the Match.

"I am happy about that, but obviously, the next time I get the chance, I will do what I have been doing for so long. And the major tournaments, like the World Cup, if I can do well in the ODIs before that and get the chance for it, then I will do my best for Indian cricket. Winning the 50-over World Cup is everyone’s dream. We missed it marginally the last time, so if possible, we will try to go all the way this time," Jadeja said.

Notably, Jadeja will be 38 years old at the time of the 2027 World Cup and might find it hard to compete with the likes of Axar Patel and Washington Sundar, especially because the pitches in Africa won’t favour spin as much as those in India.

Jadeja has represented India in 204 ODI matches and has scored 2806 runs to his name, along with 231 wickets. He was also part of the team that won the Champions Trophy in 2013 under MS Dhoni's captaincy.
