There have been several reports surrounding the sale of IPL 2025 winning franchise RCB (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) in the aftermath of the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede, which claimed the lives of 11 people. Lalit Modi, who is the founder of the cash-rich league, has asserted that the stampede was an unfortunate event, but the founders selling the team for anything less than 2 billion dollars will be a stupid decision, considering the popularity of the franchise.
Bengaluru was the second-most costly franchise side acquired for 111.6 million dollars after Mumbai Indians (which went to Reliance).
Modi was blunt in his remarks as he stated that the evaluation of the side will increase every year.
“We (IPL) are only 18 years old. We have just started the fan following, we have just started the frenzy. It was unfortunate what happened with the stampede in Karnataka after RCB won," Modi said while speaking to Michael Clarke on the Beyond23 podcast.

“If RCB does want to sell, they would be stupid to sell it for less than 2 billion dollars. If it is next year, then 2.5 billion and if two years later, it would be 3 billion, and if it is four years later, then four billion dollars. Take it in writing from me," Modi said.
Modi was eventually rooted out of the IPL as he fled the country soon after the decision by the IPL governing committee.
“I miss it. I think of it and nobody lets me forget it. I watch every match. In life, nothing is permanent. I am a part of it and that can never be taken away. In life, you have got to carry on and let others carry on," Modi said.

“Too much jealousy was created. We have a crab mentality in India; they pull you down. My family was in danger, I was in danger," Modi added.
