Rohit Sharma is gearing up for his much-awaited return to ODI cricket, having already retired from the T20Is and Tests. He last played a competitive match in the IPL 2025 for the Mumbai Indians, while his last international match was the final of the Champions Trophy in March this year.

Rohit is reportedly all set to undergo a fitness test at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (formerly National Cricket Academy) in Bengaluru ahead of his competitive return.

According to a report in The Times of India, Rohit will be at CoE for two to three days, during which he will undergo a series of tests, including the newly introduced Bronco Test, to prove his fitness for the upcoming ODI series against Australia. With an eye set on the ODI World Cup, Rohit's potential return could be witnessed during the Australia series amid a few speculations of retirement as well.

During his fitness tests, the veteran opener is also expected to take part in practice sessions to dust off the cobwebs, having been out of action for nearly three months now.

"Yes, Rohit will be at the BCCI’s CoE from September 13 for fitness tests. He will be based here for two to three days and will also practice at the facility to fine-tune his preparations for the Australia white-ball tour in November," a source was quoted in the T20I report as saying.

"With the CoE also staging the Duleep Trophy final at its main ground (A) from September 11-15, Rohit will undergo fitness tests and train at a different ground at the same facility," the source added.

Rohit, alongside other veteran batter Virat Kohli, could reportedly be seen in action for India A in a three-match one-day series against Australia A starting from September 30. All three matches will be played at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. The contests could serve as preparation for the duo for the ODI series in Australia, to be held from October 19.

The 38-year-old Rohit was seen training in Mumbai with former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. Both Rohit and Kohli retired from Tests earlier this year but helped India clinch the title in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai.
