IND vs SA T20 World Cup 2024 Final: Rohit Sharma became nostalgic as he talked about how anxious he was before the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 summit clash against South Africa. Exactly a year ago, on 29th June, he helped the team win their second T20 World Cup trophy as they defeated South Africa by seven runs in a nail-biting thriller in Barbados.

It was the Men in Blue's first ICC title after the 2011 ODI World Cup title, where India defeated Sri Lanka. After being part of the 2007 T20 World Cup winning side, where Rohit was playing in his debut ICC event, he was finally able to help a team win the title under his captaincy. So, for him, this was even more important.

Ahead of the summit clash, both the teams were under pressure. Rohit had a hard time sleeping the night before and he was feeling overwhelmed to the extent, that he couldn't even feel his legs as he was trying to understand how important that event was.

“Thirteen years is a long time. Most people don’t even have a 13-year career. So, to wait that long to win a World Cup the last one I won was in 2007. For me, it couldn't have gotten any bigger than this,” Rohit Sharma was quoted as saying on JioHotstar.

“I didn’t sleep the whole night. I was only thinking about the World Cup. I was nervous. I couldn’t feel my legs. Did I feel nervous? Of course. I just don’t show it—but inside, it was a lot. We were supposed to leave around 8:30 or 9 in the morning. But I woke up at 7. From my room, I could see the ground and just kept watching it. I remember thinking—‘In two hours, I’ll be there. And in four hours, the result will be out. Either the Cup will be here or it won’t” he further said.

After leading the side to the 2024 T20 World Cup title, Rohit along with Virat Kohli announced their retirement from the shortest format, where Virat Kohli was adjudged the Player of the Match award during the summit clash. Earlier this year, both of them Rohit and Virat had announced their retirement from the longest format as well and that means they would be playing in the ODIs for the country now.
