Rishabh Pant posted a special video on India's 79th Independence Day, which he recorded after the team's title win in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

In that video, there was also a major hint about the future of Rohit Sharma, which is increasingly being put into doubt every day. Rohit, along with Virat Kohli, has been out of the action for a while now. They were last seen playing in the IPL 2025 for their respective teams.

Virat and Rohit have already retired from the T20I and Test cricket, and there's still uncertainty over their comeback in the ODI cricket. Pant, who was not part of the playing 11 in the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand earlier this year, recorded the immediate dressing room reactions of Shubman Gill, Rohit, and Mohammed Shami soon after Ravindra Jadeja finished off the chase with a boundary.

A while later, during the celebrations, Pant took the camera out to the rest of the team. In the video posted by him, captain Rohit and head coach Gautam Gambhir were seen sharing a warm hug, whereas a small banter was also witnessed between the players, including Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Kuldeep Yadav, and others. Pant also didn’t waste the opportunity to tease Rohit. At the end of the video, he is seen listening to Rohit.

Rohit says: 'Kya? Retirement lelu? Har baar jeetega toh mai thodi retirement lete rahunga?' (What was that? Should I retire? I can’t keep taking retirements every time we win!)

To this, Pant replies: 'Maine nahi bola bhai, hum to chahte hai khelo!' (I didn’t say it, brother. We want you to keep playing.)

Notably, Rohit, Virat and Ravindra Jadeja retired from T20Is after the team's title win in the T20 WC 2024 (which is also his reference in that video). Rohit and Virat called off their Test careers in May this year ahead of the all-important tour of England.

Now, with India not playing ODIs till October, it has been months since Rohit has played any competitive cricket. Reports are now claiming that the BCCI might ask him and Kohli to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to be considered for future ODI selections.
