'Opportunity Can Come...': Rohit Sharma's Message To Sanju Samson Ahead Of T20 World Cup 2026 Goes Viral

The T20 World Cup 2024-winning captain Rohit Sharma engaged in a brief conversation with Sanju Samson ahead of the start of the T20 World Cup 2026, which has gone viral after the Indian wicketkeeper produced an incredible match-winning knock against the West Indies at the Eden Gardens on Sunday. Samson was the enforcer-in-chief for India as he smashed 97 off 50 balls to power his side to the semi-final of the tournament.

Samson, who wasn't in the best of nick before the start of the tournament, was warming the bench from the first game. Rohit, who was roped in as an ambassador for the ongoing tournament by the ICC (International Cricket Council), met with the Indian team players as he asked Samson to wait for his opportunity.

"Don't be disheartened. It is a long tournament. You'll get your chance. The opportunity can come anytime," said Rohit to Samson.

Samson subsequently participated in the game against Namibia and returned to the team for the match against Zimbabwe, where he made a swift contribution with the bat before delivering an impressive performance against the West Indies.

Focused on my fundamentals: Samson

Samson mentioned that during his time away from the team, he focused on the fundamentals, turned off his phone, and avoided social media. The wicketkeeper shared that he maintained self-belief and listened to the advice from those who are close to him.

"To be honest, I worked with a lot of people and I respect the suggestions. There were valid points. But at the same time, I felt like I have scored three international hundreds with the same setup. So I respected the advice but wanted to come back to my basics and shot selection. I didn’t want to change too much because I have performed in this style. I kept believing in myself, switched off my phone and social media, listened to myself and my close people. Very happy with how I am feeling now," said Samson.

The Suryakumar Yadav-led side will take on England in the semi-final on March 5 in Mumbai.
