IND vs ENG: India will lock horns with England for a five-match Test series, which will begin in Leeds next week and it has been renamed to Anderson-Tendulkar trophy as the ECB chose to let go of the earlier name of the Pataudi Trophy. But as per the latest reports, ECB has reconsidered retaining Pataudi's legacy, as had been requested by Sachin Tendulkar himself.
According to a Cricbzz report, Tendulkar contacted both the BCCI and the ECB boards and requested them to continue honoring the legendary Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, who helped the Indian team win their first overseas Test match against New Zealand, way back in 1967. Jay Shah, who is currently ICC's chairman, too intervened and made sure that Pataudi's legacy is still associated with this ongoing series.
"Yes, there is a confirmed plan to retain the Pataudi link in the England-India series," an ECB official was quoted as saying to Cricbuzz.
The report further revealed that the authorities would also be naming a medallion to honor the legendary MAK Pataudi, which would later be awarded to the winning skipper.
James Anderson reflects on his thoughts on honor
At the same time, James Anderson after a series was being named after him reckoned that he always used to look up to Sachin Tendulkar while growing up. “It's a huge honor. I still can't quite believe it. Sachin is someone I looked up to when I was growing up, though I don't want to do him a disservice with his age," Anderson was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.
"I remember watching him, an absolute legend of the game, and I played against him a lot as well. So to have this trophy is a huge honor for me, and I couldn't be more proud", he said.
Anderson also talked about his experience of playing against the Men in Blue and said, "There are some great memories, I always loved playing against India. I’d say, after the Ashes, it was the series that England looked forward to the most."
“I had some tough times in India, it's a really hard place to go, but we won there which was a special moment, and some of the battles we had in England were great. They had some amazing players" he concluded.
