India ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill has opened up on his desire to return to India's T20I setup after rediscovering his best form during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.

Leading Gujarat Titans (GT), the stylish batter has enjoyed a memorable campaign, scoring 722 runs in 15 matches, including one century and six half-centuries at a strike rate of 163.72.

Shubman Gill wants to be part of India's T20I squad

Gill was dropped from India's T20I plans following a disappointing run before the Asia Cup 2026. However, his performances in the ongoing IPL have underlined his return to form and strengthened his case for a comeback. Ahead of Gujarat Titans' IPL 2026 final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gill made it clear that he remains focused on improving across all formats of the game.

"I'd be happy to play if I get picked for the T20 team. Honestly, I want to keep working on my game. I want to keep getting better as a T20 batsman, as an ODI batsman, as a Test batsman," Gill said.

The 26-year-old endured a difficult phase in T20 internationals in 2025. He managed only 291 runs from 15 matches at an average of 24.25, with a highest score of 47, leading to his omission from the national T20 setup.

Despite the setback, Gill believes there is always room for growth in cricket and remains committed to refining his game.

"You know, cricket is such a game that you can never really get perfect, but obviously, you can strive for it, and that's what I try to do," he added.

Gill also revealed that being out of India's T20I plans has not impacted his mindset or preparation. Instead, he remains focused on the aspects he can control and continues to work towards his long-term goals.

"I think preparation is what keeps me mentally fresh, knowing what I need to do the next week, next couple of weeks or in the next series or next tournament, and preparing for that.

"It's about knowing the things that are in my control or knowing the things that I need to do well to be able to succeed and what we need to do well as a team to be able to succeed is what I think keeps me mentally fit," he noted.
