Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill admitted that his team fell short with the bat after losing early wickets in the IPL final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Shubman Gill on the batter's flop show

Gill felt that a score of around 180-190 would have made the contest much more competitive. However, GT struggled to build partnerships after their top order failed to fire. Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler were all dismissed cheaply, leaving the team without any real momentum. Gujarat eventually finished on 155/8, a total that proved well below par.

"If we had reached somewhere around 180 or 190, it could have been a much closer game," Gill said after the match. "There was a little help for the bowlers early on, but nothing too difficult. Losing wickets in the beginning hurt us badly and we never managed to recover."

RCB then came out aggressively in the chase. Virat Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer attacked from the start and helped their side race to 62 runs in the powerplay, putting the result beyond doubt.

Gill said GT knew they needed early breakthroughs while defending. "We thought taking one or two wickets in the powerplay would keep us in the game. But they scored too many runs in those first six overs and took control of the match."

Shubman Gill on GT's bowling

Despite the disappointing result, Gill praised his team's overall campaign. He highlighted Gujarat's bowling unit as one of the key reasons behind their successful season, especially after losing their first two matches.

"We were one of the strongest bowling teams in the tournament. The way we bounced back after the first two losses was very pleasing. The players kept improving and challenging themselves throughout the season," he said.

While disappointed to miss out on the trophy, Gill remained positive about the team's future.

"Of course, we wanted to win the title, but I'm proud of what we achieved. Even if we had won the trophy, there would still be areas where we could improve. Overall, it's been a very good season for us."
