India's Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill is all set to start his rehabilitation programme at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru from December 1, a report in the Times of India stated.
Gill's tenure as India's captain is currently on hold, with the opener having been sidelined due to a neck injury sustained during the Test series against South Africa. In his absence from the South Africa ODI series, KL Rahul has taken the reins.
According to the report, after he was ruled out of the second Test in Guwahati, Gill relocated to Mumbai to undergo physiotherapy sessions.
The 25-year-old spent some time with his family in Chandigarh before flying to Bengaluru on Monday.
The report further stated that Gill has shown positive signs in his recovery as he did not face any neck discomfort during the rigours of multiple flights and has refrained from training.
"There are no red flags at the moment and he has taken multiple flights - Kolkata to Guwahati, Guwahati to Mumbai, Mumbai to Chandigarh and now Chandigarh to Bengaluru - without any discomfort. All efforts right now are aimed at having him back on the park but it will not be a rushed process," an official privy to developments told TOI.
"The moment he is 100% and feels ready for the grind, he will be back with the squad. He is an important all-format player and everyone wants him to be absolutely ready," it further added.
The report further stated that the upcoming days are vital for the opener's fitness prospects, with his participation in the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa hanging in the balance. The five-match T20I series has been scheduled to begin on December 9.
