Shubman Gill Injury Update, IND vs SA 2nd Test: Shubman Gill is all set to travel with the Indian team to Guwahati for the second and final Test match against South Africa, which is scheduled to be played from November 22 to 26 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium. BCCI provided a major update on the Indian captain on Wednesday.
While India aim to bounce back in the two-match series with an improved effort in Guwahati, there is still a doubt regarding Gill's availability for selection in the playing XI. At the moment, he remains a part of the Indian squad for the second Test despite Nitish Kumar Reddy's addition to the team.

Providing a medical update on Gill's neck injury, the BCCI mentioned that the star batter will continue to be monitored by the medical team, and the decision on his participation in the second Test will be taken accordingly. "Team India captain Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test against South Africa and was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of the day's play," BCCI wrote on X.

"He was kept under observation and discharged the next day. Shubman has been responding well to the medical treatment provided and will travel to Guwahati with the team on 19th November, 2025. He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team, and a decision on his participation in the 2nd Test will be taken accordingly," the update added.
Notably, Gill was taken to the Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata on a stretcher after the second day of the Kolkata Test, a day after he retired hurt having faced only three balls in India’s first innings. The skipper couldn't take further part in the match as India ended up losing the opening Test by 30 runs at the Eden Gardens to go 0-1 down in the series.
He had also missed a Test against New Zealand in October 2024 because of a neck spasm. Notably, India have the options of Sai Sudharsan, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Devdutt Padikkal to introduce as the no.4 batter in the Guwahati Test if Gill misses out as a precautionary measure.
