India's young domestic star batter Abhishek Sharma smashed a remarkable century to help Punjab break the record for the highest score by an Indian T20 team during their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023 match against Andhra Pradesh at the JSCA stadium in Ranchi on Tuesday.
Abhishek went on to score 112 runs in just 51 balls as Punjab posted a mammoth total of 275 for 6 in their 20 overs, beating the previous record of 263 set by IPL side Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Pune Warriors India in 2013.

This is the highest total in Indian T20 cricket (SMAT or IPL) and fourth highest overall in T20 cricket history. Punjab went past Mumbai's record, who smashed 258 runs against Sikkim in the 2019 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

The massive score also saw the shattering of the record for the most sixes hit by an Indian T20 team with 22, surpassing RCB’s 21 from the same game in 2013.
Abhishek was on song with the bat as he executed an assault on bowlers, hitting them all over the park for his nine fours and as many sixes.
Anmolpreet Singh too had a memorable outing as he blew the opponents away with his fiery knock of 87 runs in just 26 balls. He played at a strike rate of 334.62 and smashed six fours and nine sixes. This was the third-fastest knock in the competition for a batter who has played a minimum of 10 balls.

Talking about the match, Andhra Pradesh lost the match by 15 runs as they managed to score 170/7 in their 20 overs in reply to Punjab's historic total.
Harpreet Brar took three wickets while Siddarth Kaul picked up two wickets. Arshdeep Singh and Prerit Dutta ended up taking a wicket each as well.
