Shubman Gill Not Playing, IND vs SA 2nd Test: Shubman Gill missed out as Rishabh Pant came out at the toss for India against South Africa in the second Test match at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Saturday. This is the first-ever Test match being played in Guwahati.

India lost yet another toss as South Africa opted to bat first with an aim to complete a 2-0 whitewash. They created history by defeating India in the Kolkata Test by 30 runs, their first Test win in India in 15 years. South Africa made one change in their lineup as they brought in Senuran Muthusamy to replace Corbin Bosch.

On the other hand, Sai Sudharsan and Nitish Kumar Reddy replaced Shubman Gill and Axar Patel. Rishabh Pant is captaining India for the first time as he became the team's 38th captain in Test history.

Gill, who is the top run-getter in 2025, retired out in the first innings of the Kolkata Test after facing three balls and didn’t come out to bat in the second innings. "Team India captain Shubman Gill, who suffered a neck injury during the first Test against South Africa, has been ruled out of the second Test in Guwahati. Gill suffered a neck injury on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test and was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of the day’s play. He was kept under observation and discharged the next day. He travelled to Guwahati on 19th November, 2025. Unfortunately, he was not fully fit to feature in the 2nd Test and will head to Mumbai for further assessment of his injury. Rishabh Pant will lead the team in the 2nd Test in Gill’s absence," BCCI stated in a release on Friday.

In his first two series as captain of India’s Test team, Gill amassed a total of 754 runs in five matches against England and 192 runs in two matches against the West Indies last month.
